Panvel Police News : Panvel’s Seema Wine Shop Area Becomes Open Liquor Den as Authorities Turn a Blind Eye

Panvel Jithin Shetty : The footpath outside Seema Wine Shop in Panvel has descended into a shameless hub for public drinking, with inebriated individuals brazenly consuming alcohol in broad daylight, exposing a glaring failure of the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) and local police. This alarming issue, far from being a one-off incident, has plagued the area for years, with authorities consistently ignoring the menace despite repeated complaints from residents, including women and children. The unchecked audacity of these individuals, who purchase liquor from the wine shop and casually drink on the adjacent footpath, violates Maharashtra State Excise Department regulations that strictly prohibit alcohol consumption in public spaces near liquor outlets. Yet, the PMC and police have failed to enforce these rules, allowing the footpath to become a de facto drinking den. Temporary actions, when taken, are quickly forgotten, leaving locals frustrated and demanding a permanent crackdown.Panvel Crime News

The situation poses a grave threat to public safety, particularly for women and children, who fear harassment and worse from intoxicated individuals. The area has also seen a proliferation of unauthorized food and snack stalls catering to these drinkers, further compounding the chaos. Residents accuse the PMC of gross negligence, pointing out that the authorities’ inaction has emboldened such anti-social behavior.
Outraged citizens are now demanding that the State Excise Department revoke the license of Seema Wine Shop for flouting public space regulations and are calling on the Police Commissioner to impose a strict ban on public drinking in the area. The continued indifference of the administration raises a damning question: how long will Panvel’s authorities allow this public nuisance to endanger the community?
