Revenue Department’s Surgical Strike in Mumbra Bay : Sand Mafia’s Operations Buried Underwater

Thane, Mumbra Maharashtra Mirror Vivek Rajendra Jagtap – In a bold display of authority, the Thane District Revenue Department has successfully dismantled a significant operation of the notorious sand mafia in Mumbra Bay. On May 25, a well-coordinated raid led to the confiscation and destruction of illegal sand extraction equipment, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh, ultimately putting a halt to the illicit extraction that has been threatening the region’s ecological balance and public safety.

The operation, executed under the vigilant guidance of Thane Sub-Divisional Officer Urmila Patil and Tehsildar Umesh Patil, marked a critical moment in the ongoing struggle against illegal sand mining, often referred to as “black gold.” This clandestine activity has long plagued the Mumbra area, where sand is extracted using suction pumps from boats, leading to hazardous conditions, including the potential destabilization of nearby infrastructural projects such as bridges.

According to officials, the intelligence about the illicit operation was gathered through discreet surveillance, prompting immediate action. “We received confidential tips regarding unauthorized sand mining operations under the railway bridge. Our team acted swiftly to prevent any further ecological damage,” stated Sub-Divisional Officer Urmila Patil. She emphasized the administration’s commitment to combatting illegal activities in the region, making it clear that such operations would not be tolerated.

Witnesses described the scene as tense but decisive. The special task force, comprising Board Officer Shashikant Jagtap and various Village Revenue Officers, conducted patrols in the Diva Bay area to monitor and intervene in suspicious activities. Upon locating the suction pump and boat, the officials swiftly dismantled the equipment and disposed of it in the creek, thereby neutralizing the threat and demonstrating the government’s resolve.

“This is just the beginning of our efforts to eradicate illegal sand mining in this area,” asserted Tehsildar Umesh Patil. “We will continue to conduct regular surveillance and take stringent actions against those who attempt to exploit our natural resources unlawfully.”

The revenue department’s recent intervention is seen as a major step in restoring order and safety to the Mumbra region, which has been plagued by illegal mining activities for years. Local residents have expressed relief and hope that such operations will deter further exploitation of the area’s resources.

In conclusion, the successful dismantling of the sand mafia’s operation in Mumbra Bay exemplifies the Thane District Revenue Department’s commitment to preserving the environment and enforcing the law. As authorities vow to sustain their crackdown on illegal sand mining, the community hopes for a future free from the threats posed by such illicit activities. The administration is poised to continue its vigilant efforts, ensuring that the resources of Mumbra Bay remain protected for generations to come.
